Dog Says 'I Missed You' To Her Cat BFF With Lots Of Kisses

Nothing was going to keep this dog away from her favorite cat in the entire world.

Ami, a shepherd mix, was kept in a separate pen away from her best friend, Mikaela, a brown tabby, when both animals were surrendered to a rescue group. Their differences in not only species, but size, made the separation practical - but sad nonetheless.

Unfortunately, the animals' family was moving to a different country and did not want to put its pets through the lengthy quarantine process. The rescue group, Volunteers in Defense of Animals (VIDA),reached out to the Helen Woodward Animal Center in Rancho Santa Fe, California, and placed the two animals at the shelter in the hopes that they would be adopted together.

It was obvious just how much the 18-month-old dog missed her 9-month-old cat friend once the two were reunited at the shelter last week. Even better, it was all caught on tape.

Ami could hardly wait for Mikaela to come out of her carrier ...

... and once she did, Ami just couldn't stop giving her favorite girl all of the kisses and licks.

Little did these two old friends know, their happy ending was right around the corner - and just in time for National Pet Day.

The animal center shared a photo on Facebook Monday of Ami, Mikaela and the family who completely understood that these two didn't deserve to be separated ever again. Now they finally get to go back to a loving home, together.
