What had started off as a typical dive quickly turned unforgettable for one filmmaker in the warm waters off the coast of Mozambique when he suddenly found himself surrounded by a swarm of sharks.
The diver, capturing footage for the nature documentary company Earth Touch News, describes the remarkable encounter as a group of three Scalloped hammerhead are joined by around 100 others.
"They were so relaxed with me, which was great," says the diver. "It made me more relaxed, which meant we could spend more time together."
As is noted in the clip above, scalloped hammerhead sharks are a globally endangered species, having experienced over a 95 percent decline in numbers over the past three decades, mostly due to the illegal shark fin trade -- which makes running across a large assembly of them all the more remarkable.
