Demi Lovato's New Dog Helps Her Heal After Tragic Loss

After losing not one, but two pets in 2015, Demi Lovato and her boyfriend still have one special reason to keep smiling in 2016. His name is Batman and he's the true star of Lovato's Instagram feed.

Last summer, the 23-year-old singer and her boyfriend, actor Wilmer Valderrama, lost their beloved dog, Buddy, whom Lovato loved to showcase frequently on her Instagram. He even had his own profile.

However, on July 28 Lovato revealed on Twitter that she had lost her precious friend to a "tragic accident," which Us Weekly confirmed was due to coyotes who got into the backyard of Lovato's home in Los Angeles.

Lovato shared a Twitter message about the sad incident, speaking about her love for Buddy and asking for privacy while grieving his loss:

We are absolutely heartbroken to be writing this but Wilmer and I are devastated to inform you that we lost our little angel Buddy last Sunday. He was taken from us way too soon in a tragic accident and though I will never know why this had to happen, I do know that God only puts us through situations that we can handle so with that, together we our staying strong. We have incredible people around us and so much love and support which is holding us up in this time of need. Buddy was loved by so many people and as small as he was, he made a huge impact in our lives. He truly was human in a way and we were so blessed to have him in our lives. We ask you that you please respect our privacy while we take this time to grieve and remember the magical moments we spent with our little angel. We will never forget our baby boy Buddy and his gentle loving spirit will live on in our hearts forever. RIP my tiniest little nightingale, Buddy...

"I'll love you forever, I'll like you for always, as long as I'm living my baby you'll be..."

She also shared this touching collage on Instagram:

For Lovato's 23rd birthday, she received the surprise of a lifetime with the arrival of a new family member. Lovato adopted her new snuggly pooch less than a month after Buddy's death. She aptly named the all-black pup Batman and thus began his heroic rise to Instagram fun, fame and selfies with his famous owner.

In addition to Batman and the late Buddy, Lovato and Valderrama were the proud parents of a Doberman named Spawn. But on December 27, just before the end of 2015, Lovato shared another heartbreaking post on Instagram, mourning his loss as well.

Valderrama also shared a post on his feed, paying tribute to his "handsome boy."

To go through the death of not one, but two pets in one year is a tragedy that no owner should ever have to experience. But in the face of loss, Lovato is grateful to still have her remaining "superhero" and "youngest son," as she expressed with a recent Instagram video.

Lovato's had a tough 2015, as noted in another recent collage of loved ones lost, including Buddy and Spawn.

But Batman shows, as many of us already know, that our dogs have the ability to bring a special type of love and healing superpower to the table.
