Lonely Bear Locked In Tiny Cage Always Hoped For A Better Life
He looks SO happy now 😍
For the past four years, the only home Gordon knew was inside a tiny cage.
Kept as pets on a property in Armenia, Gordon and multiple other bears had no choice but to lay on the concrete floor day after day, with nothing to do to pass the time.
The bears would get so bored they’d chew the bars of the cage, damaging their teeth in the process. But finally, last month, the bears got the break they’d been waiting for.
The International Animal Rescue team came to their aid — and now, for the first time, the bears are experiencing life out in the light.
Instead of staring at the walls of a cage, Gordon gets to play with toys and roam in the grass.
He’s likely never felt or rolled in grass before — but now, he’s just making up for lost time. After years of being so stressed, he can finally relax.
“Our dental team has just been out to Armenia and performed surgery on a number of the rescued bears, many of whom have terrible teeth,” Lis Key, press officer with IAR, told The Dodo. “So it’s likely that at some point Gordon will also be given a dental check to ensure he’s not suffering from broken teeth and infection after all those years chewing on the bars of his cage.”
While Gordon is younger than many of the other bears, he is adjusting well to his new life and will only get better with time.
He’s already making friends — and for the first time, can rest easy at night knowing he’s safe.
“He has settled in well with the other bears in his enclosure which is great news,” Key said. “He seems to be quite a placid bear!”
