Terrified Stray Dog Won't Let Anyone Near Her — Until Another Dog Comes Along

She's a whole new dog now and looking for a home ❤

Saint was found on the streets of Brooklyn one morning after spending the night wandering all alone, just looking for a safe place to rest. She eventually found a stoop and huddled there for a while, and as people started heading out to walk their dogs and go to work, they began to notice her. But despite many people wanting to help, Saint wouldn’t let anyone get near her. The poor dog was so terrified — until finally, the right person came along.

Gina Gregorio got a text from her neighbor around 8 a.m., asking if she had seen Saint before, and she decided to take her dog Saltie out for a walk and go see Saint for herself. When she arrived, Saint was still very scared — but Saltie knew just what to do.

“She was cowering and a group of people and dogs were trying to help,” Gregorio told The Dodo. “Anytime anyone tried to get near her she snarled and stiffened. I went to the bodega and the guys gave me a couple chicken breasts. She ignored the pieces I tossed to her, but my dog walked slowly up the steps and started eating them.”

Not wanting to let perfectly good food go to waste, Saltie snuck her way up the steps and started eating the chicken meant for Saint. As soon as Saint saw Saltie eating the food, she immediately began to relax. Seeing another dog hanging out there seemed to help Saint believe that everything was going to be OK, and the two dogs ate side by side for a little while, giving Saint some time to warm up to the idea that everyone around her was just there to help.

Eventually, Saint was calm enough to let some people come near her, and she was taken to the Brooklyn ACC. When she first arrived at the shelter, Saint was still incredibly scared, and was terrified of letting anyone come near her. After staffers took her outside to play, though, Saint suddenly began to come out of her shell, and before long was a completely different dog.

Saint loves getting attention and cuddles from her friends at the shelter now, and always gives lots of face kisses in return. While she can still be a little shy when meeting new people, she warms up eventually, and has so much love to give despite her rough beginnings. Now all Saint needs is a forever home and a family to give all of that love to.

While Saint is typically OK around other dogs, she would probably do best as the only dog in her new home because of all that she’s been through. She also needs a home with only adults, no young kids. Poor Saint is very anxious when she’s in her enclosure at the shelter, but loves spending time outside playing, and definitely needs a new home as soon as possible. Saint may have had a rough start to life, but she’s growing more confident every day, and would make the best, most loving addition to any lucky family.
