Student Begs Professor To Let Her Bring Her Dog To Class Before The Hurricane
His response was perfect.
As Hurricane Irma was fast approaching, Jessica Lewis decided that she and her dog, Luna, should evacuate their college town and drive home to Lewis’ family near Atlanta. Classes were being canceled in anticipation of the storm, but before the pair could leave, Lewis had one final class to attend.
Not wanting to waste any time, Lewis decided that it would be easiest to bring Luna to her last class with her so that they could leave immediately after — but first, she had to ask her professor if that would be OK.
Lewis had no idea how her professor would react to having a dog in class, and so Lewis wrote him a detailed, thoughtful email, begging him to let her bring Luna to class. She even included a few pictures of Luna, hoping her adorable face would help sway him.
Lewis anxiously awaited her professor’s response, and when he finally emailed her back …
… she was surprised and delighted to find that she had absolutely nothing to worry about.
“Did you think calling me ‘cool’ would get me to say yes,” Lewis’ professor wrote. “Because it won’t work. What will work is that she’s obviously a good girl so of course you can bring her.”
As it turns out, Lewis’ professor is a huge dog lover, and was more than happy to welcome Luna to his final class before the hurricane. The rest of the class was also delighted by Luna’s presence, and she was a perfect, attentive student for the entire hour and 15 minutes.
“She was pretty well-behaved in class,” Lewis told The Dodo. “She went straight to whoever was talking for the most part, like if someone was answering or asking a question. Just walked around and got pets from everyone and made friends. The really funny part was that every time the professor stopped and asked if anyone had questions or comments, she whined loudly like she was responding. It was hilarious.”
Even though Luna was the tiniest bit distracting during class …
… no one seemed to mind one bit and everyone absolutely adored having her there, especially the professor.
“He loved having her and had no complaints at all,” Lewis said. “He was wonderful about it; he just laughed with us whenever she did something funny.”
Luna loved attending the class just as much as everyone loved having her there, and was pretty bummed when it was finally over and she and her mom had to start their road trip home to beat the storm.
Thanks to the kind professor, the pair was able to evacuate in a timely manner and made it home safely — and gave everyone in class something to smile about.
