Guy Drops By His Parents' House And Discovers He's Been Replaced
His childhood bedroom had three new occupants.
When Joseph Sopo moved out of his parents’ house a year ago, he assumed they would eventually turn his room into a gym. When Sopo recently came home to visit, he found that his parents had indeed filled his room with something — but it wasn’t gym equipment.
It was kittens.
Sopo had always grown up with cats, and his parents’ most recent pair were a brother and sister. When the brother sadly passed away, his parents thought about it for a month, and then decided the best thing to do would be to adopt a kitten as a friend for their remaining cat.
When they walked into the shelter that day, they were only planning on getting one kitten, but they quickly fell in love with two. Their names were Sophie and Bob — and they decided they had to adopt them both.
“They were going to leave with just them when the shelter volunteer told them if they took Bob's littermate, too, it would be no extra cost,” Sopo told The Dodo. “The littermate, Lucky, was very sweet so they could not leave him behind. So in one afternoon they went from having one cat to four!”
Sopo’s parents started that day with a very empty house — no kids and just one cat — and by the end of the day, their house was bustling with sweet, crazy kittens.
Now, when Sopo comes to visit, his room is pretty much just the way he left it when he moved out — except for the three kittens who have claimed it as their own. The kittens all have their own unique personalities, and caring for them and watching them grow has been just what Sopo’s parents needed after so much loss.
“They are very adventurous,” Sopo said. “They love to play as a group and run around the house, climb their large cat castle and sleep on my parents. Usually all at once!”
In addition to all of his new cat siblings, Sopo and his girlfriend recently adopted a cat of their own, a 5-year-old ragdoll named Phoebe, so wherever he chooses to hang out, no matter what, there will always be cats.
It can be very difficult for some parents when their children finally move out, but this couple seems to be handling it exactly the right way.
