Sick Little Girl Asks For Letters From Other People's Dogs To Cheer Her Up

“It really is moving to see so many people doing something simple and kind for Emma."

When 7-year-old Emma Mertens found out that she had an inoperable brain tumor, there was only one thing she could think of that would make her feel better.

Love letters from dogs around the world.

Emma was diagnosed with the brain tumor about a month ago, and the diagnosis shocked her family to their very core. Upon learning she was sick, the only request Emma had for her family was for them to help her collect as many letters as she could from all the different dogs across the world — and so that’s exactly what they did.

Emma’s family put out a call to everyone they could think of, asking for letters from dogs and accompanying pictures so that Emma could see exactly whom the letters were coming from. They weren’t sure if their calls would work and had no idea how many letters to expect — and have been absolutely floored by just how many dogs and their families have reached out to wish Emma well.

So many people from around the world have been sending Emma messages and pictures from their dogs that her family has had to set up a special email address and PO box just to accommodate them all. Since setting them up, both Emma’s email and her PO box have been completely filled, and she and her family can’t believe there are so many people out there rooting for her and wanting to share their dogs with her just to help bring a smile to her face.

“Emma’s email inbox was completely full ... and so was her PO box,” Emma’s family wrote in an update on her CaringBridge page. “Many pictures of puppies really made her laugh or smile. Thank you to everyone who is trying to put a smile on her face, we appreciate the gesture.”

On top of all the letters and emails, Emma’s GoFundMe page has been flooded with messages and pictures from every kind of dog you can think of, and new messages are coming in every single day.

From little dogs …

… to big dogs …

… to dogs who are struggling with being sick too …

… to every kind of dog in between, it seems that all the dogs of the world are banding together to make sure that Emma’s days are filled with love and adorable furry faces.

Emma has even gotten some messages from a cat or two, who are just as eager to make sure she always has a smile on her face.

Emma has always been a huge animal lover, and during this extremely difficult time in her life, being surrounded by loving messages and adorable pictures of dogs from around the world is exactly what she needs to help get her through it.

“It really is moving to see so many people doing something simple and kind for Emma,” Emma’s family wrote.
