Faucet-Obsessed Cat Decides To See Where The Water Goes
He instantly regretted it 😅
Curiosity didn’t kill this cat — but it surely gave his family the scare of their lives last weekend.
Two-year-old Sam the cat loves sitting on the kitchen sink to watch the water flow, so on Saturday he decided to check out where the water ends up: right down the drain.
But there were a few problems with his plan. His head got stuck, and the sink doubled as the garbage disposal.
Noticing their pet was in trouble, Sam’s family jumped into action to try to get him out. They spent two hours painstakingly taking apart the garbage disposal, but by midnight, they had no choice but to call for help.
“At that point we had destroyed the garbage disposal so Sam’s head was exposed,” Lynn Naimoli, Sam’s mom, told The Dodo. “I called the police because I hoped that animal control would be available.”
Sergeant Brian Hughes, with the Tredyffrin Township Police Department in Pennsylvania, showed up with some tools and coconut oil just in time. Sam was clearly stressed out and tired from the ordeal.
Hughes worked to disassemble the final part of the drain, which was still stuck around the cat’s neck. After an hour of additional tinkering, Sam was finally freed.
At that moment, Naimoli said, she only felt one thing: “Relief.”
Aside from being a bit soaked and greasy from the coconut oil, Sam was otherwise unaffected by the debacle — and has even started lurking around the sink again.
“He is fine now, but has been trying to find the ‘monster’ who pulled him in,” Naimoli said. “He is curious about everything. Sometimes he opens the cabinets and just sits inside.”
The family’s newly-installed garbage disposal, however, is cat-proof — so Sam won’t be venturing down there again anytime soon.
