You Can Actually Stay In These Giant Animal-Themed Hotels
Want to sleep in a giant horse? 😱😍
There’s a lot to consider when planning a vacation: where to go, how to get there, what you’ll do, where you’ll stay. While many animal lovers will try to find activities that are centered around animals, there's actually a way to take your obsession to the next level — by staying inside a hotel that’s shaped like an animal! Found in destinations across the world, these hotels take loving animals to a whole new fun, breathtaking, incredible level!
1. The Whale House in Santa Barbara, California
Nestled in the Mission Canyon area of Santa Barbara, this incredible home will make you feel like you’re in a movie scene where the main characters get swallowed by a whale — only in this version, what's on the inside is nothing short of wonderful. Four floors and three bedrooms are built into the body of the whale, and if you enter through the mouth and head all the way down to the tail, you’ll find an indoor/outdoor swimming pool that ties everything together. While this masterpiece of a home is a little pricey to rent on your own, it’s perfect for a family reunion or a friend-cation. After all, who doesn’t want to bond in the belly of a whale?!
2. Les Guetteurs in Bordeaux, France
In a park in Bordeaux, a group of artists created a series of pieces that also double as little cabins and cottages you can stay in, and one of them is an adorable wooden cabin crafted to look like three wise owls. The cabin features three double beds, one nestled in the head of each owl, and through the “eyes” of each owl you can gaze up at the sky and stars as you rest. The cabin is called Les Guetteurs, which translates to “The Watchers,” and is available March through November.
3. Quetzalcoatl's Nest in Naucalpan de Juárez, Mexico
Afraid of snakes? Maybe staying inside one will help you overcome that fear! Named after the Aztec serpent god Quetzalcoatl, the complex is made up of 10 different condos, and features stained glass and brilliant colors. The unit available to rent has five bedrooms and is built right inside the belly of the snake. The whole thing sits on 40 acres and has plenty of gardens to explore, and the snake itself is long and sprawling, big enough that you definitely need some time to take it all in!
4. Crocodile Hotel in Kakadu, Australia
If you want to continue to stay inside scaly creatures, head over to Australia for the most unique hotel you’ve ever seen. The Mercure Kakadu Crocodile Hotel is a four-star hotel built in the shape of one of the area’s most common animals, the saltwater crocodile. The halls of the hotel create a distinct shape that is phenomenal to behold, especially from the air, and there is a pool directly in the middle of it all — to stay on theme, of course.
5. The Trojan Horse in Heyd, Belgium
La Balade Des Gnomes, or The Gnome Walk, is already a very unusual hotel. All of its rooms have a theme, each one more outlandish than the next, but the coolest one is definitely the Trojan Horse cabin. The structure is two floors and even has a balcony, so you can feel like you’re riding your horse-shaped cabin off into the wind. The horse also has a set of “wheels,” paying homage to the story of the Trojan War.
6. Dog Bark Park Inn in Cottonwood, Idaho
Perhaps one of the most well-known animal-shaped hotels is the gigantic beagle structure known as the Dog Bark Park Inn. The inn consists of one room inside the dog, with a second-story loft nestled in the head. The huge beagle, named Sweet Willy, and his smaller statue companion, named Toby, have received a lot of press attention over the years, and yet the entire operation is run by only two people — a husband and wife duo with a passion for dogs, art and fine craftsmanship. Your stay inside Sweet Willy includes a delicious breakfast, and the view from the porch of the majestic dog just can’t be beat.
7. The Seashell House in Isla Mujeres, Mexico
There are countless animals deep in our oceans huddled up inside colorful shells, and this gorgeous house pays tribute to all of them. The Seashell House stays true to its name and is crafted into the shape of several giant seashells, and also stays on theme throughout the house, with seashells and other marine life worked into every nook and cranny. The outside is completely white, a fantastic contrast against the pool and the sky. The house is also right across the street from the beach, so you can stay inside an oceanic oasis and then head outside and immediately enjoy the real thing.
8. The Trojan Pig in Bristol, England
A lot of people are into camping — but have you ever gone camping inside of a pig? This gigantic pig-shaped pod was created by the cider company Orchard Pig, and is perfect for anyone who wants to try camping in style. While it looks pretty cozy from the outside, the pig can actually comfortably fit up to 12 people inside, and comes with everything you’ll need for the perfect outdoor adventure. Unfortunately, the piggy glamping pod is currently all booked up, but if staying inside a pig is your ultimate dream, then definitely keep checking back!
