Puppies Go Looking For Trouble And End Up With Hot Pink Tongues

"They did not regret a thing."

Meet Apolo and Angel — a pair of adorable Rottweiler puppies who just so happen to be the prime suspects behind one recent case of domestic vandalism.

They weren't caught red-handed, exactly, but came pretty darn close to it.

Apolo and Angel live at home in Brazil with owner Amanda Sena and her family. Though just 4 months old, the pups have already built quite a reputation as troublemakers. In fact, they recently learned to work together to open doors, entering rooms where they're not allowed.

"They help each other be naughty," Sena told The Dodo. "When I think I've seen it all, they still manage to surprise me."

The other day, Apolo and Angel pulled off their most memorable act of mischief to date.

This paper flower belongs (or rather, belonged) to Amanda's sister. It was a decoration from an Hawaii-themed birthday she'd had, which she'd decided to hang onto as a keepsake. But Apolo and Angel clearly weren't deterred by such sentimentalities.

Amanda was at home with a friend this week when she heard a strange sound coming from outside. Upon investigating, she discovered the shredded remnants of that paper flower strewn about in the yard. The puppies tried to make a break for it.

"It was the biggest mess," Amanda said. "I asked my friend to go after them to see if there was anything in their mouths."

And sure enough ...

There was no paper in their mouths to incriminate them, but Apolo and Angel's tongues had suddenly turned hot pink from having the flower in their mouths.

Like bank robbers splattered by an exploding dye pack hidden in their loot, the puppy's new coloring was a dead giveaway to their guilt.

It was also very cute.

Rather than cower in shame about what they'd done, Apolo and Angel actually seemed quite proud of themselves.

"They did not regret a thing," Amanda said. "They stuck out their tongues and just wanted to play more."

Once her laughter subsided, Amanda thought it best to call the vet. She was told that the dye in the paper probably wouldn't be harmful to the puppies, but to clean their mouths and tongues and give them plenty of water, just in case.

The real victim of it all, Amanda's sister, couldn't help but laugh, too, when she found out what happened with her flower.

"No one had the heart to get angry," Amanda said. "Their happiness was just too beautiful."

Eventually, the puppies' tongues went back to their normal color.

Only time will tell when Apolo and Angel will mature out of their naughtier tendencies, but until they do, Amanda and her family are braced for more acts of mischief. In fact, they might even be looking forward to it.

"We're already waiting for the next one," Amanda said. "We knew what we were getting into, so for us it's all just fun."
