I live in Charlotte NC. Last January I noticed that my local Chick-Fil-A restaurants were the official sponsors of the the Ringling Brothers circus when it came to town. I began a personal boycott of our local restaurants. I also voiced my complaints to the local franchise owners, and sent emails to Chick-Fil-A corporate. I did not get responses from anyone at Chick-Fil-A. This year I noticed that they were sponsoring Ringling again. This time I dug a little deeper, and found out that the Ringling sponsorship is company wide, not just my local franchises. What I don't understand is why no animal advocacy groups have made any attempt to reach out to Chick-Fil-A to stop this? This sponsorship is uneducated at best. Where are PETA and ADI? They might be the only ones who can get Chick-Fil-A's attention. I realize that a company that profits on the abuse and death of chickens probably doesn't care about animal welfare, but I believe all animals deserve to be treated humanely. I find it hypocritical that Chick-Fil-A prides itself on being a "Christian" organization, but will sponsor a company that is known for it's cruelty to animals. Ringling has failed it's USDA inspection every year since 2000. They also received the biggest fine in USDA history in 2011 for improper care of the animals. Over 30 animals have died in their care, and many are sick or suffering. They beat, shock, and stab the animals into submission, and they also make animals perform while they are sick. Some of the elephants even have a strain of tuberculosis that is transmittable to humans. Maybe Chick-Fil-A doesn't care about animals abuse, but maybe they should care that Ringling employs convicted felons. Their workers have convictions for crimes such as possession of child pornography, sexual contact with a minor, rape, bank robbery, robbery with a deadly weapon, assault with a deadly weapon, drug possession, and the list goes on. Chick-Fil-A prides itself on promoting "family-friendly" activities. Sending children into a place filled with felons and pedophiles is the furthest thing from family friendly. When one of their customers gets seriously injured, raped, or killed by one of Ringling's employees their blood will be on Chick-Fil-A's hands. Maybe PETA and ADI and other "animal rights" organizations are afraid to take on Chick-Fil-A, but I am not. After all, "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." I can not in good conscience stand by and allow Chick-Fil-A to continue their sponsorship of Ringling without trying to educate them about what goes on behind the curtain. I created a change.org petition with facts about Ringling that will be sent to Chick-Fil-A corporate, and Dan Cathy personally when it reaches 10,000 signatures. Please help me end this atrocity by sharing this article, and signing and sharing the petition. In the words of Margaret Mead "Never believe that a few caring people can't change the world. For indeed that's all who ever have". Ringling will cease to exist when companies stop funding their brand of torture and abuse. Will you join me and be a voice for the voiceless victims of Ringling Brothers and Chick-Fil-A?
