Canine Starlets Audition For Role Of A Lifetime

A glamorous crew of Broadway-bound actors faces steep competition this week as they try to score a role alongside musical star Audra McDonald. McDonald, who will play Billie Holiday in the upcoming show "Lady Day At Emerson's Bar & Grill," needs a canine companion at the end of the show, according to The Bark Post. Now, these actors are -- quite literally -- competing to be the top dog:

The only casting requirements were that the pups enjoyed being held, got along well with others and weighed less than 15 lbs. "What we're looking for is a dog who will portray this character's best friend at the end of her life. So relax, everybody. It's all about the relationship you have with your animal," animal trainer Bill Berloni said.

Berloni had one final piece of advice for the canine actors, who will find out if they've gotten the part sometime in the coming weeks. "Be yourself," Berloni said. "Show us what's special about your dog. Don't worry about putting on a performance."
