Abused Pit Bull Caitlyn Named Survivor Of The Year

Caitlyn the pit bull has had a crazy year. After her mouth was cruelly taped shut she spent months recovering and healing, got to see her abuser caught and brought to justice, found a loving family and became a symbol for abused animals everywhere.

Now, Caitlyn is ending her year with national recognition - as People Magazine's 2015 best pet survival story.

Caitlyn was featured in People's annual pet awards issue, and was treated to a photo shoot resulting in a beautiful spread in the magazine. Caitlyn appears in the "Hero Pets" section of the issue, which is fitting, because as we have learned over the past months, she truly is a hero.

"We have received many emails and comments about how much she has been an inspiration for people in abusive situations and with scars," Charleston Animal Society wrote on their Facebook page. "Her bravery in the face of such abuse and her beautiful scars have given many people hope for change in their own lives!"

The issue of People Magazine featuring Caitlyn will be out on December 21.
