Baby didn't manage to save her 5-week-old kittens from the fire that destroyed the barn where they lived in New London, Ohio, last month. Luckily she survived, but it was clear her spirit was broken when she arrived at the Huron County Humane Society for care.
"She didn't have any fight in her when she came in," Huron Humane Society director Nancy Chicotel told the Norwalk Reflector. Baby's fur was burnt, her eyes were swollen and her heart was broken.
But after a few weeks of love and care at the Humane Society, Baby is beginning heal - both physically and emotionally. "Now that she is meowing and getting around we're getting to know her personality," Chicotel said. "She is a very sweet kitty."
There has also been an outpouring of support and love for Baby from the community. "We are simply overwhelmed (In a good way!) with the love that has been shown for her and her family," the shelter posted on their Facebook page.
"People are stopping by just to check on her and offer love. From the youngest of the community to our seniors, the support is so heartfelt and we can't thank you enough!!"
