Without the bonobos' assistance, these species would be unable to survive. Some seeds can germinate only after passing through digestive acid, while others can't grow in the shade of the parent tree and need to be transported elsewhere.
Bonobos are currently endangered, with fewer than 50,000 individuals left in the wild. The apes, who are closely related to chimpanzees and humans, are known for their peaceful nature and high intelligence. Unfortunately, these intelligent animals are also frequent targets for bushmeat poachers, and their numbers are continually dwindling.
