Blind Dog Spent Months Inside Well Before He Was Rescued
Whether it was an accident or an act of cruelty, a blind and nameless dog fell about 26 feet into a cold, dark well.
And that's where he stayed for months.
He was only able to survive for such a long time due to the generosity of children who lived near the well in Bosnia. For several weeks, the children threw food down into the abyss for the hungry dog.
Then, when animal rescue group Harmony Fund of Holden, Massachusetts, learned about this dog, they immediately coordinated a rescue operation.
Equipped with a safety hat and harness, one man began his descent into the well.
He worked his way down the narrow brick shaft to reach the ground where the dog had been trapped.
He saddled the dog with a specially-made harness and the team above hoisted him up.
They pulled the man out as well.
Surprisingly, the dog is in fairly good physical condition," Laura Simpson, founder of Harmony Fund, told ABC News.
As the rescue took place so close to the holidays, the team named the dog "Christmas."
"He's now in foster care," Simpson noted. "We're hoping he can find a home [where] he's loved and respected in the way he should be."
And that's the kind of home any dog should call his or her own.
Have a good Christmas, Christmas. Hopefully, you'll find your forever home soon. Til then, may all your days be merry and bright.
