Shelter Dog Is So Scared He Just Stares At The Wall
Update 6/3, 6:30 p.m.: Barkley is still available for adoption, as no one has stepped forward to take him. He successfully had his dental work done, but his teeth were in rough shape, so many of them were pulled; he has two left. Shelter volunteers say he needs someone who can give him special attention.
Barkley has not had a lucky life, but he's looking for someone who can change that.
He was found in a trailer park, where he'd likely been abandoned - perhaps because he had medical issues that his family didn't want to deal with.
He's now been at the Daviess County Animal Shelter in Owensboro, Kentucky, for more than a week, and no one has shown any interest in him. So far, he's been so scared that he just sits in his enclosure and stares at the wall.

He's also afraid to go on walks.
"This little guy is pretty terrified right now and will 'belly-roll' with any leash pressure," Friends of Daviess County Animal Shelter writes on its Facebook page.
But volunteers are looking to get Barkley, who's likely a dachshund mix, the help he needs. He's a sweetheart, they say, and deserves to find someone "extra special."

"If you can get him to trust you, you can pick him up and he lightens his defenses," they write. "What you see in this video is what shelter staff are faced with each day while cleaning. This makes moving him very traumatic for him and sets him back daily."
Volunteers are currently raising funds to have dental work performed - it's urgent, as Barkley has a hole in his gums that is infected.

"We are hoping and praying that when his medical needs are met, he will feel so much better and blossom!!!" shelter volunteers wrote on Facebook.
