Australia is proposing a "24-hour cat curfew" to keep all cats indoors. The aim of the plan is to help preserve wildlife and endangered species whom cats have been killing.

The ban comes in the wake of Australia announcing its plans to kill over 2 million feral cats by 2020. While this sounds extreme, many species native to Australia are endangered because of the prevalence of cats, but trying to figure out a reasonable solution for the benefit of all animals is definitely difficult. Still, the plan to kill so many cats upset many people, for obvious reasons, including French actress Brigitte Bardot, who openly opposed the plan.

Cats who are allowed to play around outdoors will act on their natural instincts and hunt animals like birds. Australia wants to protect its fragile wildlife, such as the ringtailed possum.

There are people who won't like the curfew - some veterinarians are worried about the physical and behavioral effects this could have on Australia's cat population. Only time will tell if this proposed mandate will actually help save Australian wildlife.
