Animal Sanctuary or Breeding Zoo?

When I gave my money in July 2014 for the entrance fee and was told to look at the tiger cubs a few feet away through the barred windows, my heart sank. So it was all true. My friend had contacted me a couple of weeks ago in regards to an article (Bangor Daily News 6/19/14) promoting DEW Animal Kingdom & Sanctuary (now DEW Haven) in Mount Vernon Maine, regarding the recent birth of tiger triplets. Two of the tiger cubs were white which struck a chord with me because white tigers are notoriously inbred in captivity in order to bring forth that recessive gene.http://www.wildcatsanctuary.org/the-truth-about-white-tigers/

The icing on the cake is that Lone Wolf Media productions in South Portland Maine filmed a reality show there called "Yankee Jungle" and Animal Planet is going to air the second season this fall! This is not acceptable! First off, a legitimate rescue or sanctuary that does not breed, would put the animals first and not even allow a film crew and cameras on the property which disturbs the animals. Secondly, this promotes having animals in your backyard, breeding them for profit and gain, and keeping them in small cages is commended as a rescue and sanctuary. Meanwhile, legitimate GFAS non-breeding sanctuaries are probably in reality ending up with a lot of the animals that DEW and similar breeding facilities have put out into the system for decades!

Please help tell Animal Planet that promoting a backyard, breeding zoo is unacceptable!
