Cow 'Nobody Wanted' Takes First Steps On Fresh Grass

These are the first, fleeting moments of a sanctuary welcoming its first animals to more than 200 acres of paradise.

And it's impossible not to feel good about it.

"Jimmy's the reason that I started the whole sanctuary," founder Mike Stura tells The Dodo. "That's why it's such a big deal that he was coming off the trailer here. Because this place, really, is for Jimmy."

Of course, Stura can still name the rest of animals as they take their first furtive steps from the back of that trailer.

"That's Jimmy ... Bill the steer ... Then Sheila the cow ... Betsy ..."

They all hail from different rescues, all abandoned and orphaned in their own ways.

"Jimmy was really a bad case," Stura says. "He was really sick. He was in the hospital for six weeks. But nobody wanted Jimmy."

So Stura kept him. The idea was to take care of the animal "with the idea that I would get a bigger piece of land down the road."

And on a mid-April day of this year, Jimmy touched down on Skylands.

Welcome to the land of the living, Jimmy.
