Animal advocates are rallying around a new documentary film that follows an animal rights lawyer, Steve Wise, as he leads an effort to break down the legal wall that separates animals from humans. Wise made international headlines earlier this year, when he filed a lawsuit requesting the status of "legal personhood" on behalf of a chimp named Tommy.
Now "Unlocking the Cage," a documentary from directors Chris Hegedus and D.A. Pennebaker, will chronicle Wise and his organization, The Nonhuman Rights Project, as they seek to revolutionize the way animals are viewed by the law -- and, ultimately, by society in general.
