Adrian Grenier To Help A Lonely Whale Tell Its Story

A lonely whale is set to join Adrian Grenier's entourage! (I had to, okay?)

The actor is slated to produce a new documentary titled "52" about a wild whale of an unidentified species that's been recorded calling out in a sound frequency no other whale can hear -- 52 Hz, instead of the 20 or so Hz used by most others like it. For this reason, the whale has endured a life of solitude, earning its distinction as the loneliest whale in the world.

"52" will begin filming this fall on a seven-week expedition to find the whale in the Pacific Ocean, what Grenier calls a "mythic quest." He also added this photo to Instagram.

The whale was first discovered in the late 1980s, and has been recorded every year since 2004, which means that the film crew has a good shot of encountering it.

Director Joshua Zeman tells Variety that the whale, although unable to be heard by its own kind, will certainly speak to audiences:

"There is still so much mystery in our oceans and the plight of this Lonely Whale speaks to something very human in all of us; the need to connect and be heard."
