Their only "fault" in their young lives was being born to an uncaring and cruel owner.
Nine newborn puppies taken away from the safety and comfort of their mother were found in a dirty container in a park - all desperately huddling on top of one another just to keep warm. Some still had umbilical cords attached to their stomachs, CBS Angeles reported.
A Good Samaritan who was taking her own dog out on a walk came across the abandoned puppies on Monday and immediately contacted California's 2nd Chances Rescue, who came to pick them up.
The puppies, only days old, were finally in good hands. At the rescue, the puppies were placed on top of a heating pad to help provide them with the heat they needed for their shivering, cold bodies.
Although one puppy sadly passed away on Monday, Jennifer Williams, founder of 2nd Chances, is working around the clock with her team to provide care and the best fighting chance for the remaining puppies.
That means providing them with love and milk, the latter resulting in the cutest of milk mustaches ...
... and keeping them warm and close to their rescuers.
In eight weeks, once they're stronger and healthier, the puppies will be put up for adoption. No suspects have been identified for the crime of abandoning the puppies at this time. Where people have failed these puppies, much kinder individuals are showing them that the world isn't so bad - with lots of support in the form of care packages.
