Last week, my vegan-activist friend Tylor and I launched his brainchild, The Fwooper Foundation. It is meant to be a Harry Potter-based fan activist group that will use the excitement surrounding the upcoming "Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them" movie trilogy to get fan activists involved in helping the fantastic beasts in our own world.
When Tylor first came to me with the idea of starting this animal activism group, I said "yes" without a second thought. I mean, Harry Potter AND helping animals? Nothing could be a better fit. Especially since one of the main characters in the "Harry Potter" series, Hermione Granger, was herself a witch who did her best to create equality and fair treatment for her fellow magical beings.
Using the Fwooper as our mascot of sorts, we are setting out to "break the silencing charm" which has been placed on animals in our world and let their voices be heard. I'll explain further. The Fwooper is a magical creature found in the "Harry Potter" series and is described by world-renowned magizoologist Newt Scamander in his bestselling book "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" as an African bird with extremely vivid plumage in colors of orange, pink, lime green or yellow. The Fwoopers' song is so powerful that they must be sold with a Silencing Charm on them.
