Historically speaking whaling in Japan it was necessary for heating and food and lamps. Yes many other countries did the same. Coastal towns and islands around the globe have harvested whales for centuries. Then in the 19th and 20th centuries, 98% of them grew up. Realizing that they didn't need to survive on these animals most people thought it better to watch these majestic creatures rather than killing them.
With only two nations really left harvesting cetacean of any kind, the international ban on whale and dolphin products, the money that is spent on police protection from people standing up and saying no, it seems as though the continuation of the drive hunt in Taiji, Japan would be at an end.
It's far from over by the looks of it. The more we tell people about this the more famous Japan becomes. Those Japanese killing the dolphins should go home, smoke some marijuana, watch these animals out of their windows and play some Nintendo®. The smoking marijuana is only to chill them out enough that they begin to see the beauty in these creatures they love to kill so much.
