We love animals, especially Elephants. Last Dec 2014, we visited the Kodanad Elephant Sanctuary in the state of Kerala (India), thinking that its a rehab center for the elephants. It's extremely pathetic to see each one of their back leg being chained so close to the tree (2 feet) that they mostly had to stand the whole day, except for the time they are brought out to bath them in the nearby lake (15-30 minutes twice a day). They have an option of lying down only on one side and you could notice that their back upper thigh part is pretty bruised up due to the constant usaage of that side only. Even during bathing time, some of these elephant's back legs were chained together that it was sickening to watch these huge beautiful animals taking baby steps. I witnessed physical & verbal abuse of the elephants during the bathing time as well. When I inquired as to why these poor animals can't be kept in a natural enclosure so they could roam free (I understand that they won't be able to survive in the wild), they didn't know what to say. They also had 2 of the elephants tied separately as they are going through "MUSTH". It seems that all the male elephants will have to remain 3 months every year in isolation due to that. Funny thing is they had slogans written on the wall such as "Man is a complex Human being. He makes deserts bloom & lakes die".......Really........I couldn't believe they are saying this. I am surprised that the local animal activists are letting this cruelty happen at this age & time. I touched them, felt them and said to myself that I will do my very best to bring this message out to the world to save them.
