Loyal Dog Stays By Lost Girl's Side For Hours Until Help Arrives

She said she wasn't scared because her pup was with her.

Last week, rescuers were in a desperate search for 3-year-old Remy Elliott, who had disappeared from her family's home in Qulin, Missouri. What they didn't know at the time, however, was that despite being lost, the toddler was never alone.

She had a faithful friend by her side.

At around 8 p.m. on Thursday, Remy's mother, Timber Merritt, was horrified to discover that her daughter had wandered away from home. After her initial search failed to turn up any sign of the girl, Merritt then called for help. Soon, local authorities, along with around 100 volunteers, were out scouring the area for Remy.

It wasn't until the next morning, 12 hours later, that Remy was found safe, curled up in the middle of a cornfield.

There, nestled next to the girl, was her family's dog, a Yorkshire terrier named Fat Heath. All through the long, dark night, he'd kept Remy safe.

Remy's mother was, of course, relieved. But while it may have been a nightmare scenario for Merritt, her daughter handled the ordeal better than anyone could have guessed — all because of her pup.

"She said she wasn’t scared because Fat Heath was there," Merritt told news station KFVS. "If he wasn’t, I think she would’ve been terrified.”
