Cats See Each Other Through Window And Fall In Love
âHi Simon, Iâm Theo.â đ
Simon was never all that interested in making friends.
The orange tabby had plenty of opportunities to socialize as a resident of Crumbs & Whiskers, a cat café in Los Angeles. Instead, he chose to keep to himself.
âHe's definitely used to other animals,â Mackenzie Coffman, Simonâs mom, told The Dodo, âbut never really played with the other cats in the cafĂ©.â
But everything changed when Simon laid eyes on his neighbor across the street.
âI was in bed and I woke up to Simon whining at the window,â Coffman said. âI looked up and to my surprise saw a cat sitting in my neighbor's window. I've lived in this apartment for two years and have never seen their cat.â
Simon was instantly smitten with the mysterious feline, but it was unclear if the object of his affection felt the same way. That initial aloofness didnât stop Simon from trying to win the catâs affection.
âThe other cat never really looked at Simon or paid attention to him,â Coffman said. âSo Simon would jump up and down in the windowsill to try to get his attention.â
Coffman had never seen Simon behave like this before, and decided to step in as a sort of wingman for her lovestruck pet.
Inspired by the music video for Taylor Swiftâs âYou Belong With Me,â Coffman jokingly taped a little sign on her window.
Soon after, the neighbors hung up their own sign in response. Coffman learned that Simonâs adoration had not gone unnoticed.
âThey opened the window, introduced themselves, and I told them that Simon always waits for Theo,â Coffman said. âThey said they always see Simon but didn't know what to call him so they've been calling him Chester.â
Simonâs obsession with Theo has only gotten stronger since the exchange of signs, but Theo still insists on playing hard to get.
âWhen Simon sees Theo he chirps at the window and paces the windowsill,â Coffman said. âTheo, on the other hand, glances at Simon maybe twice and then continues to look in the opposite direction.â
On Monday, Coffman shared her catâs love story on Twitter, writing, âMy cat Simon is in LOVE with my neighborâs cat and waits all day for him. Will keep yâall updated.â
In just two days, her post received over 200,000 likes and nearly 100,000 retweets. And, from the comments, it seems like all of social media is shipping the two cats.
The sudden popularity of the tweet led Coffman to post another sign â this time telling Theo that their relationship went viral. Theo wrote back, and the two became friends on Twitter.
Now, after weeks of longing looks through the windowpane, Simon will finally meet his beloved.
Coffman and her neighbors have organized a meet-and-greet for the cats this week, and Simon couldnât be more excited.
I guess we will have to wait and see if the love is real.
